In April 2016, Jim Hight underwent a radical prostatectomy for early-stage prostate cancer. From the moment Jim and Rae, his wife of over forty years, heard the diagnosis that everyone fears, Rae became researcher and advocate.
With compassionate honesty and tender humor, their memoir presents the voices of both Rae and Jim on their challenges and triumphs. Rae, a Certified Journal Therapist, also shares some of the poetry and journaling that became essential to her coping throughout the process.
“We had trusted, perhaps taken for granted, the security of our strong marriage. We could not have envisioned the pressures we would face. The skills we would call upon during this time in our lives. Nor could we have imagined the depth and respect for each other this life-changing experience would create.” — Rae
